Tim F. Van der Mensbrugghe
Never wanting to be a revolutionary, Tim F. Van der Mensbrugghe nevertheless finds himself in the comfortable position of pioneer, ardent discoverer of new horizons. As one of the very few in his beloved homeland Belgium, he’s experimenting with the upcoming genre of 3D-comics.
Mensbrugghe sees two reasons why his position as a 3D-comic maker is so comfortable. Firstly, he’s got no skills as a visual artist, meaning he can’t draw. At all. By using some very powerful tools on his computer, no-one will ever notice that. Secondly, he’s got no competitors in his genre, which makes him the very best in what he does, since no comparison is possible. Yet.
Besides pulling highly stylised comics out of the digital metaverse that resides in the 3D-applications on his computer, Mensbrugghe writes scripts. Being to lazy to write novels, Mensbrugghe chose short fiction as his favourite literary form. But being honest to himself, he didn’t feel like giving much thought to elaborate though time-consuming sentences, even if they were few. So, he concluded, writing comic scripts is what I have to do: pushing the story forward with as few words as needed, not losing yourself writing for the sake of writing and passing the responsibility of finally making something out of it onto the visual artist.
